Southern African Linguistics and Language Studies

 

Applications are invited for the position of editor-in-chief of SALALS [Southern African Linguistics and Language Studies], the journal of the LSSA and SAALA. The journal is ISI listed and appears in four issues per year covering the topics of linguistics, applied linguistics, and language practice, especially in the Southern African context. The journal is published by Routledge and enjoys an international reputation and readership.

The editor-in-chief is responsible for the editorial policy of the journal and the maintenance of its standards for research. The editor-in-chief receives submissions and oversees the review process as carried out by co-editors in the various subdisciplines. The position is not a salaried position, but the editor-in-chief receives a small annual honorarium.

The successful applicant should have a doctorate in linguistics or a closely related field. S/he should have a scholarly standing in one of the disciplines represented by the journal through an academic or research position and through publications, preferably international publications. The successful applicant should have
- a broad understanding of linguistics, especially in the Southern African context;
- extensive experience in publication,
- an understanding of the current issues in terms of accreditation by DoHET, as well as online and open publishing, and
- should have practical experience as an editor, for example, as the editor of a published volume with an academic publisher.

Applicants should be a member of either the LSSA or SAALA.

Applications should be submitted by 30 June to Dr Britta Zawada, of the LSSA, and copied to Prof Christa van der Walt, of SAALA. The application should include a cover letter in which the applicant describes his/her experience in editing and publishing and provides his/her vision for the journal, as well as a CV, and two references . The decision concerning filling the position will be made by the executive committees of LSSA and SAALA.
