Conference website:
http://www.wits.ac.za/conferences/language

The 2014 conference focuses on the interdisciplinary nature of linguistics in the field of language competence and use. This meeting aims to showcase the current diversity of the field of linguistics and the blurring of the boundaries between linguistics and other domains of study concerned with the structure, function and value of language.

Call for Papers:
The conference welcomes theoretical and empirical contributions that explore the principles that underlie language, as well as the anthropological, cultural, social and psychological issues that underpin language use.

Abstract Submission:
We invite abstracts of no more than 300 words. Abstracts must report previously unpublished work.

Three kinds of presentations are available:
- Paper presentations: Paper presentations will be 25 minutes (20 minutes for talk time and 5 minutes for discussion).
- Thematic panels: Papers that address a common theme may be submitted as a thematic panel. Panels should consist of at least four talks, which must be submitted individually as Paper Presentations. Each individual abstract should indicate the name of the proposed Thematic Panel.
- Poster presentation: Poster presentations are an opportunity for more extended interaction. Posters will be displayed during poster sessions, with ample opportunity for discussion.
